While patents may give you legal protection, they are an expensive and somewhat outdated option that in no way hinders your intellectual property from being copied. At the same time, sharing your design openly and for free is, for most, counterintuitive. What if there was an alternative? As a Strategy Partner on open-source development, Jaime Arredondo has worked with several organizations, including the French national railway, to implement and leverage the powers of open-source. Jaime was also part of the REMODEL project, where DDC first explored open-source as a way of doing business.
